Mom has been making a concerted effort to attract songbirds into our yard. I've never previously been a huge fan of birds, but I cannot deny that watching the colorful one feed is uniquely entertaining.

Since I'm cataloging everything else these days (they had a different definition of autism when I was a child), here's the birds I've seen at the feeders so far in 2014:

1. American Goldfinch
2. Brown-headed Nuthatch
3. Carolina Chickadee
4. Dark-eyed Junko
5. Downy Woodpecker
6. Eastern Bluebird
7. House Finch
8. Northern Cardinal
9. Red-bellied Woodpecker
10. Tufted Titmouse
11. White-breasted Nuthatch
12. White-throated Sparrow
13. Yellow-rumped Warbler

This doesn't count the birds we have who don't eat at the feeders, such as the American Robin, Brown Thrasher, or Mourning Dove. Mom says she's seen Red-winged Blackbirds, but I haven't, so they're not on this list either.

Mom worked hard to attract the Goldfinches, but the coup here is the Bluebird. We'd been told Bluebirds like mealworms, but it turns out that what they stick around for are peanuts. Who can blame them?
