Maybe what makes Magneto so irascible is that his helmet is too small.

I also bet that he shouts all the time because he can't hear himself in that thing. I'd be angry all the time if my ears were pinned to my head, too.

Sure it's cool for someone who's so into heavy metal to look like the devil, but you really would think with the power to control all metal objects, he could stretch his helmet out a bit to be more comfortable.
